Washington Colonials in a surprise takeover, spurs panic in local fan base

Washington D.C. – March 29th, 2041

In a surprise to everyone including the Colonials top operational brass, an obscure figure in baseball circles has acquired a controlling stake in the franchise and installed himself as the new GM and Director of Baseball Operations. Jeffrey Werstein is a 42 year old Milwaukee, WI native who is making his first foray into baseball management. Even more surprising, is that he is taking over both GM and Operational duties mere days before the 2041 season is set to get underway.

“I have been following this great franchise for quite some time and I am familiar with both the Major League and Minor League talent at all levels. I anticipate a smooth transition.” Werstien commented at a brief press conference announcing new ownership.

Notoriously missing from the presser was information about the personal and prior professional life of this newcomer. That fact has sparked some panic in an already weary fan base that has suffered several horrible seasons under prior ownership. Speculation that an imminent move for the franchise to the new owner’s hometown is further demoralizing the team’s supporters.

Chuck Bennington is the president of General Washington’s Army, the largest Colonial Supporter’s Club in the D.C. area. He was fearful but held out hope that this would not be the end of his beloved team’s history in Washington D.C.

Bennington pleaded, “I know anything can happen, especially when you can become a local hero for your hometown by bringing Major League Baseball to it. But, I’m confident that we can convince the new owner that Washington is the only place for this franchise. I urge all baseball fans in the area to fill the stands and make it financially impossible for the Colonials to move.”

Story is ongoing and will be updated as new information becomes available.
