2021 CBL Mock Draft

Pongo AllenRound 1, Pick 6 (Colorado Gold Sox): SP Pongo Allen (Georgia Tech University)

Pongo came out his freshman year and dominated his freshman season, starting 13 games and keeping hitters to a .255 batting average against, with a 1.31 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. Despite not being considered a blue chip recruit when he came into college, after just 5 starts, CBL scouts were all aboard the hype train, anticipating his dominance 5 years down the line. He has a strong 4 pitch combo, using all 4 in any count, and roughly 25% of the time each, and tops out in the high 90s. His trust and feel for all of his pitches is loved by all scouts, but some are wary of his control and that his stat line has gotten worst each year.

A comparison to Jose Fernandez may be a little extreme, but it’s certainly attainable, as they are both roughly the same size and neither relies on top notch velocity to get punch outs. They also share the same 4 pitch combo, although Fernandez does have better bite on his slider and an elite changeup.

Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 60 | Slider: 60 | Changeup: 60 | Control: 50 | Overall: 65

Nice write-up. You are right, that’s the kind of player I’d target. 🙂

If Wolfe went to Tucson like you predicted then I would have ended picking Bo Allen. I felt as though they are very similar pitchers but Wolfe has more potential upside…Anyways excellent article!
