Surf Dawgs Trade For Mike Moustakas

Mike-Moustakas

There were some concerns flying around San Diego that the team is not looking to upgrade their infield through free agency, and now we know why. Surf Dawgs’ GM Tim Imasa pulled a trade in the middle of the night with Frisco that would send third baseman Mike Moustakas to San Diego for four prospects. The trade is still pending, but it is expected to be finalized tomorrow night according to sources. The 27-year-old Moustakas had a banner year with Frisco last season batting .299/.372/.504 with 12 homeruns and 50 runs batted in.

“Our offense was nothing special last season. Last time I checked, we were in the middle of the pack offensively in Frontier League. I believe by adding Mike’s bat would give us great help offensively.” Imasa said to press.

What does this move means for current third baseman, Matt Carpenter–who played really well last season? This move would most likely shift Matt Carpenter to second base. However, for those who have good memories, Carpenter played second base in 2014 with not much success offensively (2014 – .200/.269/.276 in 275 AB). Defensively, Carpenter was OK at best playing second base (-0.5 ZR in 2014 and 2015). This is pure speculations of course. The off-season is still young. We might see some more trades in coming days.

Bryan Scott

Very nice pickup, Tim.

Steve Meyers

Pretty nice addition. He doesn’t do anything ‘great’ but all parts of his game are better than average. Solid pick up, no question.

David Jones

Nice addition to the roster, if I do say so (as a division rival) myself!

And thanks a bunch Erik… 😉

Nicole Wilks

I got one question. How the hell do you say that name? lol
