RoughRiders Blasted Emeralds On Opening Day

The Eugene Emeralds entered the regular season with a chip on their shoulder. After a horrendous performance in Spring Training, the team was hoping  to break the losing trend on Opening Day. First baseman, Eric Hosmer drove in the first run of the game in the 3rd inning off of CC Sabathia. Frisco RoughRiders quickly bounced back in the 4th inning . Shortstop Elvis Andrus started the rally with the lead-off walk. Following the lead-off walk, Andrus stole 2nd base, then 3rd base to setup the RBI single for outfielder, Jose Bautista to tie the game in the 4th inning. Emeralds’ ace, Matt Harvey issued a bases-loaded walk to Jason Heyward to give the RoughRiders the lead. RoughRiders blew the game wide-open in the 5th inning where the they drove in 6 runs off Harvey. Kyle Seager lead off the 5th inning for the RoughRiders with a first pitch, solo home run, followed by an RBI single by Elvis Andrus and a 3-run home run from Jason Castro. In the 8th inning, Yasmani Grandal added the last 2 runs of the game for the Emeralds. The final score in Frisco, RoughRiders 8, Emeralds 3.

  • Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki cleared to play in tomorrow’s game against Frisco RoughRiders. He suffered a rib injury in Spring Training.
