NASHVILLE — The Outlaws had a busy week with the trade deadline looming. They completed two trades. The first sent 3B Josh Donaldson and SS Jose Iglesias to Vallejo for SS Marco Hernandez and RP Victor Arano from AAA and CF Joe Donaldson in Single A. The other was completed late in the week with San Diego. The Outlaws gained P Garry Gary and OF Ronnie Carroll for SP Jake Odorizzi.
General Manager Scott is hoping to make even more moves by the July 25th trade deadline. He placed Jameson Taillon on the trading block last week, but with Taillon pitching strong as of late, it is unsure if Scott will actually deal him or wait. Other moves included signing SP Yovani Gallardo to a spot in the CBL rotation and a minor league contract to SP Alex Brantley.
From 06/18/2018 to 07/07/2018, the Outlaws had a record slightly over .500 going 8-7. This included a sweep of San Diego and being swept by Charlotte the FL East Division leaders. It’s apparent that the Outlaws are out of any playoff discussion or relevance in 2018. They have a strong minor league system and active during the trade deadline, so it will be interesting to see what other moves are made to attempt being contenders in 2019.
The last time the Outlaws were in the playoffs was 2016, but they have never won the CBL Championships. Another division title would be great, but GM Scott has his eyes on building a dynasty in Nashville.
Kurkjian has had sources close to the Outlaws organization indicate that if Taillon is moved, then it won’t be until the final hour of the trade deadline. Another source within the organization says that Javier Baez could be the next player potentially shopped.
