| Aquasox End Fajen's Streak Monday, September 11th , 2051 Greensboro third baseman Brad Fajen came into today's game against the Everett Aquasox on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Aquasox did their jobs well, beating the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-3 and holding Fajen hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 22-year-old third baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-2, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Brad did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Grasshoppers manager Blakeney Billings. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
Presently Fajen is hitting .296 with 2 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 70 games and scored 31 times. | | Wildcats Come up Short of Playoffs Monday, September 11th , 2051 Pancho Muñóz didn't hide his feelings when asked by reporters how he felt to know his Harlem Wildcats are now officially out of postseason contention.
"It's one of the worst feelings you can have as a baseball player," he said.
Harlem last appeared in the postseason in 2047. This is their 4th consecutive year missing the playoffs, and in total they have not advanced past the regular season 31 times in their 34-year history. In the last 10 seasons, the Wildcats have only made the playoffs once. | | Indians Sit Atop Midwest League West Monday, September 11th , 2051 Let loose, Spokane fans, your team has won the Midwest League West.
The Spokane Indians have officially captured the crown, the 14th in franchise history.
"We've got a team that can do it all and we think do it just as well as anyone in the league," said first baseman Eli Rosenblatt. "I hope no one is taking us lightly once the playoffs start."
Certainly the team's division crown will garner them a fair bit of respect, as the 70-67 record puts the club in position for the franchise's 3rd Midwest League championship.
"You never get tired of being in the playoffs," said manager Shawn Williams. "This is what you play for." | | | |
