Emeralds Remain Winless in Spring Training

Eugene Emeralds are still seeking for their first win in Spring Training. The team has been inconsistent offensively and defensively in their last seven games in Spring. Despite the disappointing start, the Emeralds has something to be excited about. The players below have at least met or exceeded the team’s expectation after week 1 of Spring Training:

C Jorge Alfaro – Emeralds’ # 8 prospect is having a good Spring so far. In 6 games he has a triple slash line of .273/.333/.591 with 3 doubles, a triple and 5 runs batted in (.924 OPS).

OF Dayan Vicedo – Another playing trying to break camp is outfielder Dayan Vicedo. Vicedo is currently batting .278/.316/.500 and .816 OPS. If Vicedo can continue to hit this Spring, expect him to make the active roster come Opening Day.

1B Hunter Williams – The 18-year old phenom is off to a good spring as well. With a small sample size, he’s able to put up good numbers. Williams is batting .417/.417/.667 a homerun, 2 runs batted in 12 at-bats (1.083 OPS).

SP Zack Wheeler – The 23-year old Zack Wheeler has pitched great on two starts. He has a 2.25 ERA, 6 strikeouts so far in 8 innings pitched.

Sources said that the Emeralds will start some of their regulars starting week 2 of Spring Training. The team will continue to assess the team and if needed, expect them to sign a player or two to continue to improve the team before the regular season starts.
