The Eugene Emeralds are currently talking to starting pitcher Justin Masterson on a possible ‘long-term’ extension according to ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian. However, Fox Sports’ Scott Miller Tweets this morning that both parties ‘aren’t making progress’ on the deal. In addition to Miller’s Tweet, the 29-year old Masterson is testing the free agent market in the off-season. If this report is true, Eugene will lose two pitchers from their rotation next¬†season. One of the pitchers is Francisco Liriano, who will test the free agent market according to this report¬†few weeks ago.

Tim Kurkjian also Tweets that slugger Adrian Gonzalez is not ‘currently talking to Eugene about contract extensions’. The 32-year old 1st baseman is asking for long-term contract worth $100 million according to sources.

  • Emeralds’ 2nd baseman Ian Kinsler is a week away from rehab. Kinsler suffered a herniated disc few weeks ago and was placed on 15-day DL.
  • In Pacific Coast League, the San Antonio Missions are still leading the by 1 game with 36-19 record. Zach Wheeler (3.11 ERA, 93 K), Jake Arrieta (4-2, 3.29 ERA) , and Tommy Milone (9-1, 2.58 ERA) continues to impress as the season goes along. They are expected to pitch in CBL when the roster expands in the few weeks.
