Emeralds Extending Masterson?

The Eugene Emeralds are currently talking to starting pitcher Justin Masterson on a possible ‘long-term’ extension according to ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian. However, Fox Sports’ Scott Miller Tweets this morning that both parties ‘aren’t making progress’ on the deal. In addition to Miller’s Tweet, the 29-year old Masterson is testing the free agent market in the off-season. If this report is true, Eugene will lose two pitchers from their rotation next season. One of the pitchers is Francisco Liriano, who will test the free agent market according to this report few weeks ago.

Tim Kurkjian also Tweets that slugger Adrian Gonzalez is not ‘currently talking to Eugene about contract extensions’. The 32-year old 1st baseman is asking for long-term contract worth $100 million according to sources.
