Emeralds Acquire 2B Kinsler from Hot Rods

Eugene Emeralds have acquired second baseman Ian Kinsler from Bowling Green. The Emeralds shipped 25-year old outfielder Dayan Viciedo and 18-year old right-hander Tylor Megill to the Hot Rods according to reports. The Emeralds are hoping Kinsler is the missing piece at second base. Current starter, Eric Sogard is only batting .250/.265/.354 in 12 games. Jordy Mercer, who was the Emeralds’ Opening Day 2nd baseman, has a triple slash line of .192/.244/.247  in 18 games. The newly-acquired Kinsler on the other hand is looking forward to a fresh start in Eugene.

“I’m really excited to be part of this organization. I’m looking forward to help this team win some games.”

In 23 games, Kinsler batted .250/.316/.432 with 3 home runs and 11 runs batted in as a Hot Rod. Recently, Kinsler lost the starting gig to Todd Frazier, who has hit well at least in the past 3 games.

“It’s part of baseball, there’s no hard feelings about it. I knew I didn’t hit well enough to stay as a starter. That said, I will make sure to bring out my A game everyday here in Eugene.” Kinsler’s response about losing his starting job in Bowling Green.

Kinsler will be in uniform next game against Frisco tomorrow and he’s expected to start at second base.

NOTES

OF Angel Pagan is now batting .298/.377/.489 in 11 games after being called up from Triple-A San Antonio.

Emeralds sent INF Jordy Mercer to Triple-A San Antonio to make room for Ian Kinsler on 25-man roster.
