Dawgs Fire Bud Black

San Diego Surf Dawgs fired long-time skipper Bud Black after four years. Team brass decided enough is enough after the team recorded 24 wins in 52 games. Some people thought the move was pre-mature, but the Dawgs GM thought otherwise.

“First off, I would like to thank Bud for managing this team in 4 seasons and for bringing a winning attitude to the ball club. He’s a very talented manager, but in this business, sometimes you just have to move on.” When asked if the GM read Bud Black’s comment on being let go Imasa said, “No, I did read or hear what he said after his press conference. If he was upset, then I can totally understand that. The team did not perform well under his wings, to me that’s good enough reason to be upset.”

In case you missed Bud Black’s press conference earlier, this is what he said, “You think I did a bad job? It’s the players who couldn’t hit, couldn’t pitch, couldn’t catch the damn ball. And you can print that,” he added, as he stamped out a cigarette and stomped off.”

Bud Black’s tenure in San Diego was considered a ‘success’ in many eyes, however, despite his winning record over the years, the team only won 1 playoff series in 3 post season appearances.  This is the CBL. The only way you can keep your job is to win the Premier Cup or if you allow your GM to control your line ups. 🙂

On the bright side tonight, new Manager Dave Keller wins his first game as Dawgs manager and the team is on a 4-game win streak. Also the team is only 3 games behind the FL Wild Card and still plenty of games left to be played. Next up for the Dawgs, the team will travel to Austin to play a 3-game series versus the Bats.

Haha I was enjoying Bud running the team into the ground. I’m sure you’ll turn it around this month.

A ‘black eye’ for Buddy boy, to be sure.

btw…you can find Joe G. at Starbucks most mornings. He said to join him anytime for a CBL bash session.
