Portland Panthers were rocked by the sudden resignation of General Manager Phil Doyle. Doyle was later confirmed as the new GM of David Geffen’s new team – the California Dreamers. Having guided the Panthers to the Premier Series just a few days ago, Doyle wasted no time in working out his release from Portland with owner Geoff Brown. “We are obviously very upset to see Phil go, but he made it clear that he didn’t want to be here anymore so we reluctantly agreed to his request to move to California. The CBL is thrilled to welcome the California Dreamers to the Frontier League West. The new team will play its home games in M&P Park in Los Angeles and will replace the Tucson Express. The move happens following the sale of the franchise to David Geffen. The Dreamers will play in Blue, Red and Yellow uniforms and also released their premier logo. Following months of negotiations, Geffen will relocate the franchise to the Los Angeles area and the team nickname will be revealed in the future. The CBL would like to place on record its thanks to the people of Tucson who have supported the team through its inception and have assured fans that as part of the deal there will still be a minor league team based in Tucson. Business man David Geffen was spotted in CBL Towers yesterday. An office official who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed that Geffen had been visiting Head Honch, Tim Imasa. The official could not confirm the purpose of the meeting but did say the meeting lasted most of the morning. A spokesman for Geffen, confirmed that the meeting took place but would only add that the duo were discussing a business opportunity. Speculation has been growing over the future of the Tucson Express and Geffen may be interested in acquiring the failing franchise and relocating them.
