America’s Finest City Gets a CBL Team

SAN DIEGO, CA — Fresh off their playoff series lost to Daytona Cubs, the Eugene Emeralds franchise will leave their wood grain pattern uniform in Oregon and move to sunny San Diego next season. According to the new owner Ron Fowler, the team will called San Diego Surf Dawgs. The Surf Dawgs might sound familiar to some as the team played in now-defunct Golden Baseball League for two years. The Surf Dawgs won the championship in GBL’s inaugural season (2005-2006) managed by Terry Kennedy. The signing of MLB Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson gave the team national exposure and former first-round draft pick Matt Wheatland was among five San Diegans on the roster in the inaugural season. “I’m very excited to bring back professional baseball in San Diego once again.” new owner Ron Fowler said.

Surf Dawgs first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is ecstatic about the relocation of the team as well, “San Diego is home for me. That’s where I grew up and that’s where I learned how to play baseball. I’ll be happy to play baseball again in front of family and friends.” Gonzalez said. Players who grew up in the East Coast are welcoming the change too, “I have been here two days so far, but I’m loving the weather and people already. I can’t wait to play baseball here.” staff ace Matt Harvey said.

The Surf Dawgs will sport a classic white and sky blue uniform with gold trim as seen below. The logo features a dog carrying a bat and a surfboard that showcases the team name, “San Diego Surf Dawgs” in blue, white and gold combination. The cap will featureĀ a surfboard with a big “SD” in the front.

This league isn’t big enough for 2 animals to be surfing around as team mascots.
