Round 1, Pick 5 (Tucson Express): SP Nicholas Wolfe (Nebraska University)
Wolfe is another incredibly safe pick for the Express, as he’s been a college starter for 3 seasons, posting a 2.40 lifetime ERA, with a 12.2 K/9 and 0.90 WHIP. A 6’0″ right handed pitcher topping out at 99 mph with 3 pitches above average, he’s not going to be a Bob Feller candidate each season, but he will get you strong performances every outing, and be a solid front line starter for a young and upcoming team.
A comparison to Ruben Alaniz seems to suit Wolfe, as they both use a three pitch mix, and rely the strikeout to make up for their low control and hope that their electric stuff can miss bats, because when it doesn’t, they get hit hard.
