2021 CBL Mock Draft

Pedro ChavezRound 1, Pick 2 (Erie SeaWolves): C Pedro Chavez (Vanderbilt University)

With no obvious second pick in this draft, really anyone could go here, but Chavez being a strong talent at a premier position will entice Erie enough to use the second pick in the draft on him. While he won’t be a guarantee to stay behind the plate, he seems like a sure thing to one day be a CBL player. Erie loves having players who have shown success, and this kid has done just that, batting an unreal .418 this season, and improving his power numbers. Some scouts have said he is the next big thing, a premium bat at a weak position, while others when asked about him have said “Who?”

Since he is no guarantee to stick behind the plate, and many scouts are varied on his potential, we’ll give two player comparisons. At his worst, he will become a backup who plays when the starter needs a day off, and may play some first base, similar to Dayton’s Kyle Schwalbe. At his best, he becomes similar to Portland’s Griffin Helms, a bat first catcher who can hold his own behind the dish.

Nice write-up. You are right, that’s the kind of player I’d target. 🙂

If Wolfe went to Tucson like you predicted then I would have ended picking Bo Allen. I felt as though they are very similar pitchers but Wolfe has more potential upside…Anyways excellent article!
